Welcome!
Hi everyone, welcome to my new blog! I’m a freelance journalist in the UK, writing for the national newspapers and women’s magazines, specialising in health, parenting, feature interviews with celebrities, relationships, travel, and green issues. More than a decade after starting writing, I still love my job because I love tracking down stories, meeting people, and learning about new ideas. I’ll be posting here regularly with any new case study requests for features I’m working on and thoughts on current issues. To see all my requests, look at the right-hand column towards the top, in the section called Sarah Ewing’s blog. As with all my requests, anyone who gives me a solid lead for a case story will be entered in a monthly prize draw for a bottle of champagne as a thank you! Cheers,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
I think your blog and all your other social networking is great. I am a PR (we’ve been in touch about Boots stuff in the past) - I’m just setting up a consultancy Cream Communications, with another ex-Boots girl and we’re just about to embark on the whole website and blog project. How did you find the whole process? I must admit to feeling a bit apprehensive about it - I’m a bit of a natural technophobe and although I am really keen to get into it all, I feel a bit like my mum does when she tries to text! Anyway, I think your site and blog look fab, well done for being on the front foot, and I look forward to reading more. Good luck with it all and hopefully be in touch soon, whether for work or just general chit chat. Cx

Hi Carrie, of course I remember you! Good luck with your new company. Which other Boots’ girl are you going to be working with? The website was fairly painless lol as I had a designer do it. I had a rough idea of what I wanted, but a def idea of what I didn’t. Still getting to grips with the blogging - nowhere near an expert as my mates, but it’s a learning curve. Am going to be fiddling with the layout of it - it seems I can change the font on certain bits and not others which is annoying as it’d be better if it was all the same imho….

Am having a fiddle with the font and positioning of the title, as the default option is to have it right justified which looks a bit odd. If there are any word press experts out there, let me know if this can be done! Cheers,
Sarah

Hi,
Thanks for your note, it’s good to know that other people feel like they’re still on the “learning curve” too. It’s Rachel Benton that I’m going into business with - I’m sure you must know her, as she’s been Health PR Manager for a few years at Boots. We’ve worked together on and off for 10 years now, in between kids and different roles in Boots and are really good friends, so we are very excited (if not a little nervous!) We’re really lucky as Boots are still keeping us on for some bits and bobs, so at least for the time being we’ll be on familiar territory. I’ll keep you posted as to how we get on. Good luck with the font…. Cx

Hi Sarah,
Congrats on the new site and finding the time and energy to get it up and running.
I wonder if people may be happy to post names of journalists /freelancers who are particularly friendly/helpful in Scotland ….something like Sarah’s list of helpful hacks!
Or maybe you might like to invite journalists into your site, friendly ones who are looking for stories.Or would this be counterproductive for you?
Just a thought….Lol Ali.

Well, the gettingink blog is kind of set up for that purpose. It’d prob work better on a PR related website as it would be difficult for me to be objective about that!

Hi Sarah
Remember me…..the online menu planning website and shopping list planner?????
1click2cook.
We had a couple of great conversations and you wrote about me for Psycologies?
Anyway….I think this looks like a great blog and I shall probably become addicted and want to start one too!!!
I hope you find keeping one a very cathartic experience!!
Love the estate agent comment….name and shame… a girl after my own heart!!

It’s a well-known estate agency that rhymes with tax. Utter arrogant charlatans!

Great idea to have a newsletter.
Also without people like you, I would not have a successful business.
Because it’s virtually impossible to launch a new product without a massive advertising budget !
Thank goodness for editiorials.

Hi Sarah! I don’t know whether you responded intentionally, or by mistake, but either way, it is great. I truly am a concert pianist in the U.S. but have had some incredibly difficult circumstances for the last 25 hyears, and am very fortunate to be alive. I’d like to contact you more, so please write on my blog, and I’ll write on yours.!

Hi Sarah love the idea of the newsletter and the blog is great too, I think it’s a much more personal way of you getting your requests out and us pr’s being able to reply to you.
Long may it continue.
